Source to sea
challenges were founded in 2004 by John and Geordie, two friends based in Northern
Ireland who planned a journey along the length of the River Bann
from it's source (on the flanks of Slieve Muck in the Mourne
Mountains in County Down), to where it flowed into the Atlantic
Ocean at the Bar Mouth at Coleraine in County
Londonderry. Due to circumstances outside
their control the challenge did not take place at that time but the plans
remained and
the
idea
spread. Thoughts then moved to providing a facility for
helping other
people carry out their own similar challenges and this website was
created.
Both of us have enjoyed a
lifetime spending as much time as possible in the outdoors between
work and leisure time,
getting involved in tests and challenges of various kinds. We
have been involved in charity challenges organised by other
organisations and groups. We have also
been involved within the adventure racing fraternity for many years working
at
many races throughout Europe including the Adrenalin Rush, British
Championships, Irish Championships, Rat Race Adventure, Discovery
Channel Adventure
Racing World Championships and more.
Volunteering to help at
challenges and adventure races can be a great way to get more
involved in outdoor adventures of your own and make new friends from
around the world. We have provided information on our "Links"
pages to various races and challenges for anyone interested in becoming involved.
NB: The first Bann
Challenge took place in May of 2008 and details can be found
by clicking on the "Quik Link".
